ABOUT THE PRESERVE

The Redmond Family was committed to preserving an environmentally significant property that would offer recreational opportunities for the local community. By championing this property, they were able to honor their family’s love for and fond memories of Lapham Peak.

The Bugbee family was inspired to sell their family property at a fraction of its market value because they have long embraced the outdoors, finding joy, peace, and connection to its quiet wonders. It was their mission to share these experiences with others who felt a similar affinity for nature.

HOW IT WAS PROTECTED

the k. redmond family preserve trails project

Conservation begins with protection but it endures through community

Land protection is our foundation - but its future depends on people.

When people are given the opportunity to experience the land, they form a connection that endures. That connection becomes stewardship. And stewardship becomes legacy.

The K. Redmond Family Preserve Trails Project is designed to foster that progression - creating access in a way that respects and protects the land, while building a community invested in its future.

We invite you to play a defining role in shaping that legacy.

These trails will not simply be built on the landscape, but with it. Guided by best practices in sustainable trail design, this project will protect sensitive natural features, manage water responsibly, and ensure the long-term ecological health of the preserve. At the same time, it will open the door for people to experience the land in a meaningful and lasting way.

This is more than a trail system - it is an investment in access, stewardship, and connection. Your support offers the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy at the K. Redmond Family Preserve. With your partnership, we can create a model for conservation-minded recreation - one that balances protection with access and serves as a regional destination for generations to come.

trails don't build themselves

We’re not trail-building experts—and that’s exactly why we’ve partnered with those who are, bringing together the right people to do this the right way.

Together with the Ice Age Trail Alliance, we’re creating a new reroute and scenic spur—giving hikers more opportunities to slow down, explore, and connect with this landscape in a meaningful way.

With Milwaukee Metro Mountain Bikers and Southern Kettle Off Road Riders, we’re building sustainable singletrack designed for all skill levels—trails that invite riders in, challenge them, and keep them coming back.

And alongside Waukesha County Land Conservancy, we’re ensuring that every foot of trail is guided by one principle above all: protect the land first.

Because this project isn’t just about building trails - it’s about creating access, fostering connection, and inspiring a community that values and cares for the land.

It costs about $8 to build a single foot of trail.

A few dollars builds a step.
A larger gift builds a stretch of trail.
Together, we can build something that lasts for generations.
